Terms and Conditions
Effective 22 September 2026
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern the purchase of, access to, and participation in courses, workshops, cohort programs, digital materials, community spaces, and related educational services offered by Design Systems Academy ("Design Systems Academy", "Academy", "we", "us", or "our").
Please read these Terms carefully before purchasing or participating in a course. By placing an order, you agree to these Terms.

The specific course description, dates, schedule, price, included services, and other course-specific information shown on the relevant course page or order confirmation form part of the agreement between you and the Academy.
If there is a conflict between these Terms and specific written terms expressly stated for a particular course at the time of purchase, the course-specific terms will apply to that conflict.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to purchase a course unless a parent or legal guardian purchases it on your behalf and accepts these Terms.
You are responsible for ensuring that the course is suitable for your experience, technical setup, availability, and learning objectives before purchasing.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, participation does not require a formal academic qualification or professional certification.
3. Course Format and Delivery
Courses may include one or more of the following:
- Live online classes
- Workshops and demonstrations
- Assignments and practical exercises
- Course documentation and learning materials
- Access to recordings
- Access to source files, templates, code, Figma files, repositories, or other resources
- Access to private community spaces such as Slack
- Feedback from instructors
- Certificates of completion
Live sessions may be delivered through Zoom, Google Meet, or another suitable online platform.
Community spaces may be delivered through Slack or another suitable platform.
The exact format and inclusions of each course will be described on the applicable course page.
Technical requirements
You are responsible for maintaining:
- A reliable internet connection
- A compatible computer and browser
- Any software specifically identified as required for the course
- Accounts required to access third-party tools used during the course
Some third-party products may have their own terms, pricing, account requirements, or technical limitations. Unless expressly stated otherwise, third-party subscription costs are not included in the course price.
4. Registration and Account Information
You must provide accurate and complete information when purchasing or registering for a course.
Depending on the payment provider and course platform, we may collect information including your:
- First and last name
- Billing address
- Country
- Postal code
- Email address
- Company details, where applicable
- VAT or tax information, where applicable
Payment information is processed by our payment providers. Design Systems Academy does not normally store full payment card details.
You are responsible for keeping any login credentials, invitation links, course links, and community access credentials confidential.
Course access is personal and may not be transferred, resold, shared, or made available to another person unless we approve the transfer in writing.
5. Prices, Taxes, and Payment
The applicable price will be displayed before you complete your purchase.
Prices may be displayed inclusive or exclusive of VAT or other applicable taxes depending on your location, customer status, and the information shown during checkout.
The final amount payable, including applicable taxes and charges, will be displayed before the order is confirmed.
We may accept payment through one or more payment providers and payment methods, including:
- Credit or debit cards
- Bank payments
- Installment payment plans
- Buy Now, Pay Later providers
- Other payment methods displayed at checkout
Available methods may vary by country, currency, course, and payment provider.
6. Installment Plans
Where an installment plan is offered, the total price, number of installments, payment schedule, and any applicable provider terms will be shown before purchase.
An installment plan is a commitment to pay the full course price, not a subscription that can be cancelled simply by stopping future payments.
Unless you validly exercise a statutory withdrawal right, qualify for a refund under Section 9, or we agree otherwise in writing, all remaining installments continue to be due even if you:
- Stop attending the course
- Do not complete assignments
- Stop using course materials
- Leave the community
- Decide that you no longer wish to participate
If an installment payment fails, we may contact you and allow a reasonable opportunity to update your payment method.
If payment remains overdue, we may suspend access to live sessions, recordings, course materials, certificates, and community spaces until the overdue amount is paid.
We may use a third-party payment or financing provider for installment payments. Where financing is provided directly by a third party, your financing agreement with that provider may contain additional terms. Those terms do not reduce any mandatory consumer rights you have against Design Systems Academy.
7. Order Confirmation and Course Place
Your place in a course is confirmed when:
- We successfully receive or confirm your payment or approved payment arrangement; and
- You receive an order confirmation, enrollment confirmation, or equivalent written confirmation.
Places in cohort-based courses may be limited.
We reserve the right to refuse or cancel an order where there is an obvious pricing error, suspected fraud, misuse of a payment method, or another legitimate reason. If we cancel an order after receiving payment, we will refund the amount paid unless we are legally entitled to retain it.
8. EU/EEA Consumer Right of Withdrawal
If you are a consumer in the European Union or European Economic Area and purchase online, you may have a statutory right to withdraw from your contract within 14 days from the date the contract is concluded, without giving a reason.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, email:
with a clear statement that you wish to withdraw from the contract.
You may use the model withdrawal form at the end of these Terms, but it is not mandatory.
Services beginning during the withdrawal period
If you expressly request that a service begin during the 14-day withdrawal period, you may still exercise your withdrawal right where applicable, but you may be required to pay an amount proportionate to the services already supplied before you notified us of your withdrawal.
Where a service has been fully performed during the withdrawal period, the statutory right of withdrawal may be lost where the legal requirements for your prior express consent and acknowledgement have been satisfied.
Digital content and immediate access
Certain course resources may qualify as digital content, including downloadable files, recordings, templates, code, or other digital resources.
Where applicable law permits, if you expressly consent to receiving digital content immediately and acknowledge that doing so causes you to lose your statutory withdrawal right for that digital content, access may begin immediately after purchase.
Any waiver or loss of a statutory withdrawal right applies only where the requirements of applicable consumer law have been properly satisfied.
Mandatory rights
Nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded or restricted.
9. Academy Refund and Cancellation Policy
The policy in this Section is an additional commercial policy and does not replace any statutory withdrawal or consumer rights that apply to you.
Student cancellation before the course starts
Unless a specific course page states a more favorable policy:
- You may request a full refund up to 30 calendar days before the scheduled course start date.
- If you cancel fewer than 30 calendar days before the scheduled start date, payments are normally non-refundable, subject to your mandatory consumer rights.
- Instead of a refund, we may offer you the option to transfer your place to a future cohort, subject to availability and our written approval.
Refund requests must be sent to hello@designsystems.academy.
Cancellation after the course starts
Once the course has started, payments are normally non-refundable except where:
- Required by applicable law
- Design Systems Academy cancels the course
- A material failure to provide the contracted service gives you a legal right to a refund, price reduction, termination, or another remedy
Non-attendance, scheduling conflicts, failure to complete assignments, or a change of personal circumstances do not automatically entitle you to a refund.
Installments after the refund deadline
Choosing an installment plan does not extend the refund period.
After the applicable cancellation or withdrawal period has ended, unpaid installments remain payable even if you stop participating, except where applicable law or these Terms provides otherwise.
10. Course Cancellation, Rescheduling, and Changes by the Academy
We may make reasonable changes to:
- Session order
- Lesson content
- Exercises
- Instructors or guest speakers
- Supporting tools
- Course platforms
- Session times where reasonably necessary
Such changes will not materially reduce the overall educational service purchased.
We will notify enrolled students of material changes as soon as reasonably possible.
Rescheduled sessions
If an individual live session cannot take place as scheduled, we may reschedule it to a reasonable alternative date or provide an equivalent live or recorded replacement.
Course postponement
If circumstances require us to postpone the entire cohort, we will provide the revised dates.
If the revised schedule represents a material change and you cannot reasonably attend, we will offer an appropriate remedy, which may include transfer to another cohort or a refund, as required by applicable law.
Course cancellation
If Design Systems Academy cancels a course and does not provide a reasonable equivalent replacement, students will receive a refund of the course fees paid for the cancelled course.
We are not responsible for indirect costs you incur in preparation for an online course, except where liability cannot legally be excluded.
11. Attendance and Participation
You are responsible for attending the scheduled live sessions.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, we do not guarantee that every missed session can be repeated privately or rescheduled for an individual student.
Where recordings are provided, they are intended as a learning aid and do not guarantee an identical experience to attending the live session.
Assignments, exercises, and feedback opportunities may have deadlines. We may not be able to provide the same level of feedback for work submitted significantly after those deadlines.
12. Recordings
Live sessions may be recorded for enrolled students.
Where recording takes place, participants will be informed.
Recordings may capture a participant's:
- Name
- Voice
- Profile image
- Video, if the participant enables their camera
- Screen or work shared during a session
- Chat messages or questions
Recordings are primarily intended for course delivery and access by enrolled participants.
We will not intentionally use a participant's identifiable image, voice, work, or testimonial for public marketing without an appropriate legal basis and, where required, separate permission.
If you prefer not to appear visually in a recording, you may keep your camera disabled and avoid sharing personal information on screen. Where practical, you may also submit questions through alternative channels.
13. Community Access and Conduct
Some courses include access to a private community such as Slack.
You agree to communicate professionally and respectfully.
You must not:
- Harass, threaten, discriminate against, or abuse another participant
- Share another participant's personal information without permission
- Upload illegal, malicious, infringing, or harmful material
- Spam, aggressively solicit, or misuse community contact information
- Share private course content outside the permitted group
- Intentionally disrupt sessions, workshops, or community spaces
- Impersonate another person
- Use Academy spaces for unlawful activity
For minor issues, we may provide a warning and reasonable opportunity to correct the behavior.
For serious misconduct, harassment, threats, fraud, deliberate disruption, or repeated violations, we may immediately suspend or terminate access.
Where access is terminated because of your serious or repeated breach of these Terms, you will not automatically be entitled to a refund, subject always to mandatory applicable law.
14. Intellectual Property
Unless otherwise stated, all Academy-created course materials are owned by Design Systems Academy or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws.
This includes, where applicable:
- Videos and recordings
- Slides
- Written materials
- Illustrations and diagrams
- Exercises
- Templates
- Figma resources
- Source code
- Course structures
- Documentation
- Workshop materials
- Brand assets
Personal learning license
When you purchase a course, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the course materials for your own learning and professional development.
Unless expressly permitted, you may not:
- Resell or redistribute course materials
- Publish course recordings or materials publicly
- Share files or access credentials with people who are not enrolled
- Repackage the materials into another course, training program, product, or commercial resource
- Claim Academy-created materials as your own
- Remove copyright, attribution, or proprietary notices
Your own work
You retain ownership of original work that you create yourself during the course.
By voluntarily sharing your work in a live class or private community, you give the Academy and other participants permission to view and discuss it for educational and feedback purposes.
We will not acquire ownership of your original work merely because it was created or discussed during the course.
Third-party and open-source materials
Some examples, libraries, frameworks, components, repositories, or resources used in a course may be owned by third parties or made available under open-source licenses.
Those materials remain subject to their respective licenses and terms.
15. Certificates
Where a course includes a certificate of completion, eligibility may depend on reasonable completion requirements stated for that course, such as participation, submission of assignments, or completion of specified activities.
A certificate issued by Design Systems Academy is evidence of participation or completion of an Academy program. It is not an accredited academic degree, government qualification, professional license, or guarantee of employment unless expressly stated otherwise.
16. Educational Nature of the Course
Our courses provide professional education, practical instruction, and learning resources.
We do not guarantee:
- Employment
- Promotion
- A particular salary
- Client acquisition
- Business revenue
- Admission to another educational program
- Any specific career or commercial result
Results depend on many factors outside our control, including your participation, experience, practice, market conditions, and individual circumstances.
17. Third-Party Services
The course may use third-party services such as payment processors, video conferencing platforms, community tools, design software, source control platforms, AI tools, cloud services, or code-hosting services.
Your use of those services may also be governed by the third party's own terms and privacy policies.
We are not responsible for a third party's independent service, outage, policy, pricing, or account decision, except to the extent that applicable law makes us responsible for the delivery of our contracted service.
If a third-party service becomes unavailable, we may replace it with a reasonably equivalent service.
18. AI Tools and Student Responsibility
Some Academy courses may include the use of artificial intelligence tools.
AI-generated output may be inaccurate, incomplete, insecure, or inappropriate for a particular purpose.
You are responsible for reviewing and validating AI-generated work before relying on it professionally or commercially.
You must not upload confidential, proprietary, personal, or restricted information into an AI service unless you have the right to do so and understand the applicable service's data terms.
The Academy may teach workflows involving third-party AI tools but does not control those tools or guarantee their continued functionality, pricing, availability, or output.
19. Privacy and Personal Data
We process personal data in accordance with applicable data protection law and our Privacy Policy.
Our Privacy Policy should be read together with these Terms and should explain, among other things:
- What personal data we collect
- Why we process it
- Our legal bases for processing
- The service providers we use
- International data transfers where applicable
- Data retention
- Your data protection rights
- How to contact us about privacy
Payment processors and other independent third parties may process certain personal information under their own privacy policies.
Marketing communications will be sent only where we have an appropriate legal basis. You may unsubscribe from optional marketing communications at any time.
20. Availability and Force Majeure
We will use reasonable efforts to deliver the course as described.
We are not liable for delay or failure caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control, such as:
- Major internet or infrastructure outages
- Natural disasters
- Government actions
- Serious illness or emergency affecting an instructor
- Cyberattacks
- Widespread platform failures
- War, civil unrest, or similar extraordinary events
Where such an event materially affects a course, we will take reasonable steps to reschedule, replace, or otherwise provide the affected service.
This Section does not remove any mandatory right to a refund or other remedy that you may have under applicable law.
21. Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer law.
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was formed.
- We are not responsible for losses caused by your failure to follow reasonable technical or security instructions.
- We are not responsible for decisions you make based solely on educational examples, AI-generated output, or third-party information without appropriate professional review.
If you purchase a course primarily for business or professional purposes and are not acting as a consumer, our aggregate liability arising from the course will, to the extent permitted by law, not exceed the total amount you paid to us for the specific course giving rise to the claim.
Consumer rights and remedies that cannot legally be limited remain unaffected.
22. Complaints
If you have a complaint, please contact us first so that we can attempt to resolve it:
Please include:
- Your name
- The email used to purchase the course
- The course concerned
- A description of the issue
- The resolution you are requesting
We will aim to acknowledge and respond to complaints within a reasonable period.
Consumers may also have access to applicable national or cross-border alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
The former European Commission Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform was discontinued on 20 July 2025 and is therefore not referenced as a complaint submission platform in these Terms.
23. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms and contracts entered into with Design Systems Academy are governed by the laws of Estonia, without depriving consumers of any mandatory protections granted to them by the laws that apply in their country of habitual residence.
For consumers, disputes may be brought before the courts or competent dispute-resolution bodies available under applicable consumer and jurisdiction rules.
For customers acting exclusively in the course of a business or profession, and to the extent legally permitted, disputes arising from these Terms will be subject to the competent courts of Estonia.
24. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect:
- Changes to our services
- Changes to payment options
- Changes to applicable law
- Changes to technology or course platforms
- Clarifications or improvements to our contractual terms
The version accepted when you purchase a course will normally continue to govern that purchase.
If a change materially affects an ongoing course or an existing contractual right, we will notify affected participants where required and will not retroactively remove mandatory rights.
The current version of the Terms will be published on our website together with its effective date.
25. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
26. No Waiver
If we do not immediately enforce a provision of these Terms, that does not mean we waive our right to enforce it later.
27. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with:
- The applicable course page
- Your order confirmation
- Any specific written course terms
- The Privacy Policy
- Any additional terms expressly accepted during checkout
form the agreement between you and Design Systems Academy concerning your purchase.
